Wind Tunnel-Water Circular Channel

The wind tunnel-circulating water channel is composed of a multifunctional wind tunnel and a stratified water circular channel, which can be in separate use or in combined use to form strong testing capability for the hydrodynamic performance of ship and ocean structure in the integrated environments of wind, waves, currents and stratified flows. The experimental facility is used for the automatic, long-time and multiple-target measurement of hydrodynamic forces and fine flow fields, the flow field visualization tests and especially for hull form optimization and new hull form design. It is unique in that it can simulate complex ocean environments formed by stratified flow, internal wave, irregular wave and variable wind, and can be used for fundamental research works such as nonlinear interaction of ocean environments, internal wave and its mechanism, vortex-induced vibration mechanism and fluid-structure coupling mechanism, and also for applied basic research work such as synchronous fine measurement and analysis of the hydrodynamic performance and flow field information of ship hull and its attachments, the motion and fluid dynamic response of offshore platform as well as its riser and mooring system under the action of internal wave. In addition, this facility can also be used for experimental research and pre-research of product development for ship propulsion and maneuvering devices, underwater vehicles, offshore wind power generation equipment, sail boats, yachts, etc.

The water circular channel is vertical, its measuring unit is 8.0m long, 3.0m wide and 1.6m deep (water), and its maximum flow velocity is 3m/s. Equipped with a surface flow accelerating device, surface wave and internal wave generating devices, a water level automatic adjusting device, a water filtration device and various measuring devices, the channel can be used for speedability, maneuverability and wave resistance tests, stratified flow test and fluid field visualization test of various types of ships.

The multifunctional wind tunnel has a small test section (high speed test section, 3m×2.5m×16m, and a top wind velocity of 60m/s ), a large test section (low speed test section, 6m×3.5m×14m and a top wind velocity of 20m/s ) and an open test section (surface test section, 2.6m×1m×3.9m and a top wind velocity of 30m/s). The open test section is the measuring unit of the circular channel, and in tests under the joint action of wind, waves and currents, the wind is introduced to this section by bypass air duct. The small test section is used for the aerodynamic load, wind pressure distribution and flow state impact tests of structures, structural parts of wind power facility, superstructure of ships and ocean structures as well as high speed moving objects under the atmospheric boundary conditions. It can simulate the velocity profile of atmospheric boundary layer with a maximum thickness of 1.2m and is equipped with two 2m turntables in the front and rear directions. Equipped with 4m turntables and an automatic rough element lifting device, the large test section can be used to simulate atmospheric boundary layers with a maximum thickness of 1m for four kinds of geomorphic features, and the aerodynamic load, aerodynamic elastic response and wind pressure distribution of super large structures such as bridge and stadium, architectural complexes such as whole block and industrial park, and superstructures of ships and ocean structures. In addition to constant wind velocity, the open test section can also generate pulsating wind with periodic change. At a mean velocity of 20m/s, the instant wind velocity within 12sec may change periodically between 14 ~ 26m/s.
