Visit of President of Singapore Institute of Technology to the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering SJTU

On March 12th, Vice President Zhang Zhaoguo of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) met with the President of Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Chua Kee Chaing, and his delegation at the Minhang Campus. They had in-depth discussions on innovation in scientific research and student cultivation, reaching several consensuses on deepening cooperation. The delegation then visited the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering (OCE) to explore further collaboration and tour related research facilities.

Vice President Zhang welcomed President Chua and introduced SJTU's development strategy of being "comprehensive, innovative, and international", expressing hope for elevating cooperation between the two universities through this visit. President Chua thanked SJTU for the warm reception and proposed the future cooperation in applied science and engineering as well as international summer programs to jointly promote internationalization.

During the visit to OCE, Dean Prof. Fu Shixiao, and Deputy Dean Prof. Gao Zhen, attended the symposium. Two sides had an enthusiastic discussion on talent cultivation and research collaboration. Prof. Fu noted that SIT, as a leading university in applied research in Singapore, has significant strengths in engineering and technology. He expected to drive deeper cooperation between the two universities in talent cultivation and research through this visit.

President Chua expressed the gratitude for the warm reception from the OCE and introduced SIT’s characteristics, development strategy, and key engineering application areas, including the research on unmanned electric vessels in Singapore. He believes there is a great cooperation potential between SIT and SJTU in engineering education and intelligent and green ship fields. Both sides also had an in-depth discussion on academic research and student exchange.

The delegation also visited the deep-water offshore basin at the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering at OCE, gaining further insight into the School's cutting-edge research and experimental facilities in the field of ocean engineering.

This visit offered a valuable opportunity for enhancing understanding and exploring collaborative opportunities. Both parties agreed to strengthen communication and work together to find new ways of cooperation in education and research, aiming to make greater contributions to the advancement of global higher education and technology.
